About the activity

Embark on an excursion in the wee hours of the night and traverse through the Andaman Trunk Road (ATR) to finally reach the famous Baratang Island. This bumpy ride via lush green jungles, home to the indigenous Jarawa tribe, and the azure waters of the And aman Sea will be imprinted in your heart forever. Explore the famous Limestone caves with their stunning stalagmite and stalactites before you head to the active Mud Volcanoes. From the strange yet gorgeous wonders of nature to the chance of coming face – to – face with a Jarawa – the Baratang Day Excursion has it all!
 
Schedule
  • 3:30 am: Pick up from the hotel and drive to the Convoy starting point.
  • 6 am: Convoy starts, the drive to Baratang Island begins
  • 7: 30 am: Reach Nilambur jetty and take a boat ride through dense mangroves to reach Nayadera Jetty.
    From here, walk down for about a kilometre to see the Limestone Caves.
  • 12 pm: Continue the excursion as you head to the see the Mud Volcano, which requires you to take a short 5 – min walk via a rocky path
  • 2 pm: Resume your drive back to Port Blair and drop to hotel

Timeline

  1. Leave your hotel at 3:30 am and head to the Convoy starting point
  2. After a short wait begin your drive to the Baratang Island
  3. Reach Nilambur jetty and take a boat ride to the Nayadera jetty
  4. Follow a scenic trail that leads you the outstanding Limestone Caves
  5. After a short drive, take a string along a rocky path taking you to the Mud Volcano

Important Info

  1. Any kind of interaction with Jarawas including taking their pictures in illegal. If ignored, the same can lead to imprisonment
  2. It is compulsory to carry Id cards/Passports while visiting the Reserve area
  3. The tour involves a long road journey, the convoy through the Jarawa reserve lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour, during which the car is not allowed to stop
  4. This tour is not possible on Mondays
  5. Anybody under the age of 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult
  6. Snacks and Meals are not included
