About Elephant Beach

Elephant Beach is a secluded spot with clear blue waters and sparkling swathes of white sand. Ancient trees cast long shadows along the shore. Unfortunately, the beach is now but a fraction of what it used to be, as the shoreline was largely swept away by the 2004 tsunami. The corals here are some of the best on the island. With the reef so close to the shore, this is an excellent spot for snorkelling.

It is essential to bring your own snorkel, as the underwater world truly is amazing. It can get crowded especially when sea-walking and snorkelling tours take place, but one can always find their own special secluded spot.

In high season there are a couple of vendors selling fresh fruits and coconuts, one can even find some water and snacks on the crowded parts of the beach. Apart from this, no other facilities are available here.

How to Reach Elephant Beach?

The Elephant Beach in Havelock Island lies on the western coast and can be reached either by taking a speed boat or by trekking through a forest trail. The speed boats leave from the Havelock jetty and take about 20 minutes (8.7kms) to reach Elephant Beach.

For those who don’t mind a brisk 2.5km trek through the jungle, a path opens up on the way to Radhanagar beach which can take you to the beach, in place of the ferry. This trek should take about 30 minutes. Guides are available at the entrance if you need one. Carry water and wear comfortable footwear.
