Note: Avoid visiting Limestone Caves at Baratang during the monsoon season and rainy times, as the trail becomes slippery and challenging to walk. Additionally, the ferry ride during rains can be less enjoyable, as the tarpaulin coverings of the boat hide the scenic views of dense mangrove forests. The Baratang Island Limestone Caves can get darker, making it difficult to explore their unique formations without a flashlight.
How to Reach Limestone Caves Baratang Island?
To reach the Andaman Limestone Caves, you need to reach Port Blair first. You can directly fly into Port Blair but if you are staying in Neil Island or Havelock Island then you can book a ferry from Havelock to Port Blair or from Neil Island to Port Blair.
1. From Port Blair ( Capital City) : Take an early morning government bus or private AC bus or hire a cab to reach Baratang Island. The drive via Andaman Trunk Road includes a short vehicle ferry connection from Baratang Jetty to Nilambur Jetty and takes about 3-4 hours overall. While passing through the Jarawa Reserve, you may pass near areas inhabited by the indigenous Jarawa tribe. It’s important to respect their privacy and avoid any form of interaction or photography.
2. Convoy System: Due to the sensitive Jarawa tribal reserve on route the Andaman Limestone Caves, vehicles move in a convoy for safety and conservation purposes. Convoys to Baratang Limestone Caves depart Jirkatang at 6:00 AM, 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 2:30 PM; return convoys to reach Port Blair are at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
3. Boat Ride: When you arrive at Nilambur Jetty, you will need to purchase tickets for INR 900 per person. After that, you can board a fiber motorboat for a 25-minute ride through narrow and dense mangrove creeks. The boat can accommodate 6 to 8 people and is typically operated by a boatman, who also serves as your tour guide to the limestone caves.
4. Trek to the Caves: A 2-km trek through dense forest from the boat’s docking point leads to the limestone cave Baratang, which includes a mangrove walkway and forest trails.

To visit Limestone Caves II at your own pace, it’s recommended to book a private trip, giving you the flexibility to extend your adventure.
