How to Reach Parrot Island, Andaman

Many tourists visit Baratang Island to see the limestone caves and mud volcano but among them only a handful visit Parrot island. 1 out of 100 visit the place as most haven’t heard of the place before and they don’t have enough time to visit.

To visit Parrot Island, you first need to reach Baratang Island. After arriving in Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman Islands, you have three main travel options to get there:

  • Private Cab – Comfortable but more expensive.

  • Private AC Bus – A good mid-range option.

  • Government Bus – The most budget-friendly way, with buses available from Aberdeen Bazaar in Port Blair.

  • Two-wheelers are not allowed

     

1. The Journey to Baratang Island

The road trip to Baratang Island takes about 4 hours including a short vehicle ferry connection and is an adventure in itself! You’ll travel along the Andaman Trunk Road, passing through the Jarawa Tribal Reserve—a protected area home to the indigenous Jarawa Tribe. While it’s fascinating, remember to respect their privacy and avoid any interaction.

2. Reaching Parrot Island

Once you reach Baratang Island, head to Nilambur Jetty (also known as Baratang Jetty) and book a fiber boat for around ₹5000 (can accommodate up to 8 people). The 20-minute ride takes you through beautiful mangrove forests, offering a scenic journey that leads directly to the stunning Parrot Island.

  • The last convoy back to Port Blair leaves at 3:00 PM. Since Parrot Island visits happen at sunset, you’ll need to stay overnight at Baratang Island.

  • Hotel options are limited, so it’s recommended to book in advance; we suggest Dew Dale Resort and Coral Creek Resort.

  • If you’re in Havelock Island or Neil Island and want to visit Parrot Island, you’ll first need to book a ferry from Havelock to Port Blair or Neil to Port Blair. From Port Blair, follow the travel options to reach parrot Island in Baratang.
