About White Surf Waterfall in Little Andaman

Hidden deep within the lush greenery forests of Little Andaman Island (a.k.a Hut Bay), White Surf Waterfall is a spectacular sight for nature lovers and adventure seekers. This natural environment with a picturesque backdrop is a refreshing escape from the tropical heat, offering visitors a peaceful experience surrounded by thick tropical jungles. As the water falls down rocky steps, it forms crystal-clear pools, perfect for a refreshing dip.

This falls in Little Andaman Island used to be a huge waterfall before Andaman and Nicobar Islands was hit by the Tsunami in 2004. But still, it is one of the main tourist attractions across the island. Locals say that the waterfall got divided into two smaller falls after the Tsunami earthquake and doesn’t carry as much water as earlier. However, the spot looks gorgeous even today. Magnificent White Surf Waterfall in Little Andaman is a must-visit on your Andaman Island itinerary!

Best Time to Visit White Surf Waterfall

The best time to visit Little Andaman White Surf Waterfall is from November to May, but if you want to catch it in it’s full glory, head there right after the monsoon season that ends in November. The dense rainforests stay lush and green, the air is fresh, and the waterfall will have an impressive flow, definitely a jaw-dropping sight!

Ideal to visit in the morning for a peaceful experience. Avoid visiting during the monsoon season (June to October) as the trails become slippery, and the water flow can be unpredictable. If you’re visiting in peak summer (April-May), the waterfall won’t be as fierce, but the spot remains pleasant in the middle of nature.

How to Reach White Surf Waterfall

1. Getting to Little Andaman from Port Blair

Reaching Little Andaman is an adventure in itself. The island is connected to Port Blair via government ferries. Since ferry schedules can vary, it’s crucial to check in advance and book your tickets early. The ride takes about 8 hours and costs around INR 3000 pp for a round trip, but with the vast blue ocean around, it’s a journey worth experiencing.

If you’re in Havelock Island or Neil Island, you’ll first need to book a ferry from Havelock to Port Blair or Neil to Port Blair before continuing your journey to Little Andaman.

2. Getting Around Little Andaman

Once you arrive at Hut Bay, getting around is pretty easy. Auto-rickshaws and a few government buses are available, but the best way to explore Little Andaman is on rental bikes! Renting a scooter or motorbike is hassle-free, with most guesthouses and rental shops in the market area offering them at affordable rates.

3. The Route to White Surf Waterfall

White Surf Waterfall is just 6.5 km from Hut Bay town, nestled inside an evergreen jungle. It’s easy to locate, just take the main road and turn right before the island-only petrol station. A short drive of about a kilometer from there will lead you to the entrance.

Note: For a more private and exclusive experience, you can rent a private charter boat from Port Blair to visit Little Andaman. It will be a bit costly, but it’s time-saving as it will reach within 4 hours, perfect for group travelers! And what’s more, you can go as you wish, stop the boat somewhere in the middle of the ocean, take a dive (because swimming in the middle of the ocean is an experience like no other), or try your hand at game fishing. Sounds like an adventure, right?

Things to Do in White Surf Waterfall

1. Trek to the Waterfall

Before reaching the main falls, you’ll go through a short jungle trek from the entrance. It’s a easy hike with breathtaking beauty with serene ambiance all around. The pathway is covered with towering trees, chirping birds, and the occasional sight of butterflies. Keep your eyes open for small streamsmoss-covered rocks, and the dense canopy above, which makes the trek feel like a true jungle expedition.

While some adventurous trekkers attempt to climb to the top of the waterfall, we don’t recommend it. The pathway is extremely slippery, and the chances of falling are high, making it a risky attempt. Stick to the designated paths and enjoy the waterfall safely!

2. Take a Dip in the Waterfall

Why just admire the waterfall when you can actually feel it? The natural pool formed at the base is perfect for a dip. Soak in the cool, fresh water, let the waterfall cascades give you a natural back massage, and just relax while being surrounded by pure wilderness.

Watch out for the crocodiles! We don’t recommend going alone here, as there have been a few sightings of snakes and saltwater crocodiles in the area. You need to be a bit cautious, but at the same time, there’s a chance you might spot these incredible creatures from a safe distance. The chances of spotting them are very low, but it’s always good to stay alert.

3. Visit Nearby Attractions

  • Butler Bay Beach – A stunning beach just a few kilometers away, perfect for surfing, sunbathing, and relaxing on its golden sands. The waves here are ideal for beginners and experienced surfers.

  • Red Oil Palm Plantation – Take a tour of the island’s famous palm plantations and learn about their history. These plantations are spread over an area of almost 2000 hectares and contribute significantly to the local economy and are a unique sight to explore.

  • Harminder Bay Beach – A lesser-known paradise with clear waters and soft sandy shores. It’s a peaceful beach, perfect for relaxing, swimming, or simply enjoying the untouched beauty of Little Andaman.
